We are a father-and-son team with a shared history in home improvement. Jody started the family business; Ryan brought that experience into garage organization. Today, we work together under the Peterson Roofing and Home Improvement name.
Jody Peterson
Founder of the family business
Jody founded Peterson Roofing and Home Improvement in the 1980s. What began then has become more than 45 years of serving homeowners in the Quad Cities, Iowa City and Eastern Iowa—a business built on honesty, craftsmanship and relationships that last beyond a single job.
He is still part of the work today, alongside his son. For our family, that continuity matters: the name on the truck is our name, and the care we bring to your home is part of that reputation.
Ryan Peterson
The next generation. In The Garage since 2014.
Ryan is a graduate of Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. His construction background comes from working alongside his father, Jody, at Peterson Roofing and Home Improvement. In 2014, he helped start In The Garage, bringing that hands-on experience to cabinets and organization.
More than a decade of garage projects has followed. The photo above shows Ryan with one of those red-cabinet installations—a piece of our history, and a reminder that there are real people behind the finished spaces you see here.

How In The Garage began
In The Garage started in 2014 with a practical idea: help people protect their belongings, find what they need and enjoy a less cluttered space. Ryan’s father-in-law, Tim Jeske, helped get the business started, working alongside Ryan in those early years. Their work included storage for garages, homes and small businesses. Today, Ryan works with his father, Jody Peterson, as part of Peterson Roofing and Home Improvement, with cabinets, slatwall and floor coatings at the heart of the garage offering.

Peterson Roofing and Home Improvement serves the Quad Cities, Iowa City and Eastern Iowa with roofing, siding, gutters, windows, doors and decks, as well as garage solutions. In The Garage gives our cabinet, slatwall and floor-coating work its own home, with the same family ownership and emphasis on craftsmanship. That broader company history goes back more than 45 years; our garage story began in 2014.
Our work has included cabinets and slatwall for fishing tackle in Davenport, and a room for an eBay seller who needed to organize thousands of jewelry items. Those jobs started with a person and the things they needed to store. Yours might start with tools, sports gear or simply wanting room to park again.
